Description

Deep-red hibiscus calyces, dried whole, are blended with broken rosehips to make a tart, cranberry-bright loose tea that turns the water a clear, glowing ruby the moment it steeps. Both are grown along the Nile Valley, harvested and dried within the same season so the blend keeps its color rather than fading to a dull, tired brown in the tin, and the calyces stay whole rather than crumbling to dust. Hibiscus is drunk everywhere from Egypt to the Caribbean, where it is traditionally valued as a cooling, antioxidant-rich cup for hot afternoons and long, humid evenings alike. Rosehip, the swollen fruit left behind after the wild rose drops its petals, has long served as a folk source of vitamin C through lean winter months, gathered after the first frost sweetens it on the branch. Steep one tablespoon per cup for six minutes if drunk hot, sweetened or plain, or brew it strong and pour over ice for a tart, cold glass in high summer. This tea is traditionally valued for its antioxidant content and vitamin C; it does not treat or prevent any condition and is not a substitute for medical advice.
