Description

Five tumbled carnelian stones, a banded, translucent form of chalcedony that glows deep orange to red when held up to a window or lamp, as if lit faintly from within. Carnelian sits in the same mineral family as agate and onyx but keeps a warmth of color neither typically shows. Each stone in the set is polished to a smooth, rounded shape by tumbling, no two identically marked, the color ranging from pale amber to deep rust within a single piece. Carnelian has long carried a reputation for courage and vitality. Roman soldiers carved seal rings from it and were said to carry it into battle, and Egyptian craftsmen set it into amulets meant to ward off faintness of heart and steady the wearer's nerve. The stone's warm color made it an easy symbol for the qualities it was believed to hold, one that outlasted the empires that first prized it. Carry a single tumble in a pocket or bag, keep one on a desk within sight through a difficult stretch of work, or set the full handful in a bowl near a doorway. They ask for no particular ritual — only to be kept close or given away. A pouch of five, sixty to ninety grams total, sourced from India. Sold as a curiosity — no medical or scientific claims are made.
