Brass Planchette Talisman

A miniature planchette cut from solid brass, heart-shaped in the old spirit-board style and pierced at its center with a small round viewing hole. Cast and then hand-filed to a smooth edge, it is sized to rest in the palm of a hand or to hang from a chain at the throat — a tool's shape reduced to something worn rather than used. The planchette is the pointer of the talking board, the small heart-shaped piece that drifts under a pair of resting fingers toward a letter or a yes or no. Folklore holds it a device for questions one half-knows the answer to already, and treats its movement as guidance rather than command. Ours is made to be worn as a charm rather than set on a board, though what anyone asks of it privately is their own affair. Wear it on its chain, or carry it loose in a pocket where a thumb can find the smooth brass edge. Handling will darken the metal over time into a warm, old-gold patina, faster where fingers rest most. Sold as a curiosity — no medical or scientific claims are made.
