About this book
Description
Sweet Grass, also known as Holy or “sacred” Grass, has been used ceremonially for centuries to purify body and spirit, as a spiritual medicine. Sweet Grass Hydrosol offers an alternative to burning a smudge braid for those sensitive to smoke.
Technically, when freshly distilled, Hydrosols are always mildly acidic, with a very low Ph value. This is part of what makes them such wonderful skin toners. Sudden changes in Ph or a high Ph value are thought to be signs of spoilage. Sweetgrass breaks the rules. When freshly distilled, this herbal water had a high Ph value (alkaline, not acid) which dropped over time. It also changes aroma when refrigerated. Normally we recommend storing all of our hydrosols under refrigeration; but please be aware that chilling this hydrosol dramatically changes the aroma. At room temperature it is sweetly spicy, with traces of the coumarins one would expect in Sweet Grass. At refrigerator temperature it smells much greener and more vegetal.
Because of its unusual chemical behavior, we do not recommend using this hydrosol topically. I would not use it for skincare, but for cleansing, for energy work, for all the spiritual uses that people burn Sweetgrass…smudging, removing negativity… it is amazingly powerful. We recommend using it together with White Sage Hydrosol for energy work.
