Description

A raw cluster of pyrite, its brassy cubes intergrown at sharp, near-perfect right angles, as though set deliberately rather than grown by the mineral's own habit over millions of years underground. Each specimen is pulled whole from the clay-rich mines of Navajún, Spain, one of the few places on earth known for cubes this large and this cleanly formed, and no two clusters come out quite alike in size or arrangement. Pyrite earned the name fool's gold for the countless prospectors it lured toward disappointment with its false gleam, yet folklore has long regarded it rather more kindly, as a stone of confidence and hidden fire. Its actual name comes from the Greek for fire, for the sparks a struck piece will throw, a property put to real use by earlier peoples for starting flame long before matches existed. This is a display specimen rather than a stone to carry or wear — set it where light can catch the faceted cubes, on a windowsill or shelf, and handle it sparingly, since pyrite's edges are sharp and its surface can tarnish with oil from repeated touching. Sold as a curiosity — no medical or scientific claims are made.
