Description

Pale gold and thinner than any modern cologne, this liquid sits in a plain glass bottle, closer to a splash than a spray and meant to be patted on rather than misted. The scent opens with citrus and a clean sweep of lavender, then settles into clove and a whisper of cinnamon, gone within the hour rather than lingering into evening. First sold in American port cities in the early eighteen-hundreds, Florida Water traveled far past its original use as a gentleman's toilet water, taking root especially across the Caribbean and Latin America as an everyday cleansing splash. Folklore across those traditions holds it as good for more than skin — a capful in wash water is said to freshen a room's mood, and a dab on the hands before any delicate task is thought to steady the nerves and clear whatever clung on from before. Ours follows a nineteenth-century toilet-water formula close to the original: citrus oils, clove, lavender, and a trace of cinnamon suspended in a light alcohol base, with nothing synthetic added to stretch the scent artificially. It fades fast on purpose, the way the old formula always did, rather than clinging like a modern fragrance is built to. Splash a little into cupped palms and press it to the back of the neck, or add a capful to a basin of water for wiping down a doorstep or altar cloth. A small bottle goes a long way — this is a household staple, not an occasional indulgence.
