Description

A faceted teardrop of solid brass, cut with enough flat facets to catch and scatter light as it turns, hung from an eighteen-centimeter chain fine enough to run easily between two fingers. A small bead sits above the weight to give the hand something to grip without touching the brass itself. At twenty-five grams it carries enough weight to swing with a clean, steady arc rather than a nervous wobble. The pendulum is dowsing scaled down to the size of a hand: held still over a question, or above a chart, it is said to answer through the direction of its own swing — a circle one way for yes, another for no, a straight line for something undecided. Cunning-folk and diviners across many traditions have used weighted plumbs like this to search for water, lost objects, and answers that resisted plainer methods, treating the swing as a kind of quiet, wordless response. Hold the chain loosely between thumb and forefinger, let the brass settle to stillness, then ask a plain question and watch which way it turns. A printed chart of the traditional swing directions comes with each one, though many prefer to work out their own over time. Workshop-made, solid brass, twenty-five grams on its chain. Sold as a curiosity — no medical or scientific claims are made.
